Changing Exhaust on a 900T16 - DIY or Shop?

Dec 09, 2003 7 Replies

Hi All,

I need a whole exhaust apart from the tailpipe section. A couple of local fast-fit places have both quoted me around £220 for the other 2 sections.

Now, I'm reasonably mechanically competent, I can also get the bits from less than half that price, including a fitting kit from Eurocarparts. I've no lift, just small ramps.

Is there anything I should be wary of attempting this myself? Any hints or tricks? Or is it such a PITA to do I'm better off leaving it to the garage?

Thanks for any advice

Mike

PS I need an exhaust now, not in 4 months, or I'd get a stainless one :-( Money is tight at the mo..

The exhaust on a C900 is a piece of cake - you undo the downpipe clamp, undo the bracket that holds it to the gearbox, unhook all the rubbers and it's off.

Plenty of PlusGas on the exhaust nuts, and plenty of copperslip when reassembling.

Put the front end up on stands, it'll make your life easier.

Cheers Grunff. Looks like I'm having a dirty weekend then :-)

does the turbo exhaust mount onto the trans in the same way?

Ignore me. Stupid head on. didn't read the subject header properly.

Mine does.

I'm confused.

The Subject said T16, I asked if it will be fitted on the turbo models the Same way. Doh.
