rocker switch near gear shift 1985 900s

Hello I just bought a 1985 saab 900s 5 speed. I have no owners manuel. can anybody tell me what the rocker switch right by the gear shift is? Also if you know how many gallons of gas the fuel tank holds? gas gauge does not work.

Thanks Rod

The gas tank hold 16 gallons. The fuel gauge sensor unit is easily replaced through the trunk/hatch area floor. I believe the rocker switch by the shifter is for the the overhead light.

You should be aware this car has the parking brake on the FRONT wheels. It is really hard to do hand brake turns with this car. If your car is a US model, it uses the standard head lights - inexpensive to replace and Cibie has replacement H4 lights.

Just curious, where did you buy this car?

can

if

Yes, it's an interior light switch (until it decides not to work anymore - occasionally due to a slipped cable or dirt inside, but sometimes seems to be just old age!)

Clean all the terminals and connectors on top of the sender unit before you remove it. Sometimes it's all that's needed.

If you're keeping it, *do* get a manual asap and perform regular changes with a reputable oil. Enjoy it. Cheers

I am still getting familiar with this car. it appears that the switch is just shot. light stays on no matter what. but when you switch it the light flickers. I am getting quite a few positive comments about this car. I don't know history of car. I know that it spent time in Florida. I can't believe mileage is correct 141k miles on it. the body appears to be in good order. paint is faded (color silver) but it looks like it has not been in any wrecks. I guess the state of Florida may be kinder to automobiles then the state of Nebraska. (we put salt on roads here) hopefully this post works correct. am new to newsgroups.

Well if it's anything like the NG 900S, it's the courtesy light switch (ie interior light)

Cheers,

The rocker switch is for the interior light(s). In my 1982/83 900S, it's two lights - one above the left-side rear door, and the light behind the rear-view mirror. The same lights that operate via the door open switches whenever a door is open and the 3-way switch on the light over the rear left-side door is in the right position.

Regards,

Craig.
