Saab 99 oilpump gasket?

Hello all, I am looking for a gasket (or set) for the oil-pump in my Saab 99 (1980) Saab-dealer and specialist dont have that part.... (strange...) Anyone here that could help me find this?

I am in the Netherlands, but since it's just a small and lightweight part, mail-order is an option...

Thanks, Richard.

I seem to recall using Permatex rather than an actual gasket for this, is that an option?

Dave,

not sure if I was specific enough so here's another try: There are 2 'gaskets' in the pump, one plain thin 'paper' one and one thick rubber ring, with a square cross-section. (not sure how you would call that).

I dont know Permatex, is that some sort of 'sealant'?

Richard.

And that's the one I need.... :-)

I'm sorry, I thought I read that this was for the transmission to engine surface joint.

Yes, a silicon-based sealant, but if it's for the pump I'm not sure I'd use it there. Can you cut your own gaskets?

Yes, I can, but couldnt get this one right... didnt have anything of the exact right thickness (5mm).

BTW: I think it's called a 'seal' in English.

He needs an O ring (Well it is not O but if you see what I mean)

LOL! :-) I'll try one more time, ok? :-)

"A round rubber ring of roughly 6 cm diameter with a rectangular cross-section of aprox. 5x5 mm" ?

Pfew!

BTW: I got a mail from Tom@saabtech saying he probably has one for me! :-)

Richard.

You don't have to. I read your description ... the reason I called it O ring is to make clear it is not a paper gasket. I should have put a wink ;-)

I have used them too square O rings :-) but in my time I got them as part of a complete kit of all the engine gaskets.

Ugh!! Silicon sealers can block up all sorts of things in engines, they should be kept for bathrooms and gutters only. Use Loctite 518, expesive but only sets anaerobically in the joint, the excess is soluble in the oil.

There are plenty of automotive applications where they are fine, and even reccomended (I seem to recall something about the 2.0L valve cover, for instance). Originally I had read his post as meaning the joint between the engine and the tranny, which is an appropraite location for such a sealant.

Haven't tried it. Once it dissolves in the oil, does it become a problem for the oil chemistry, or should it be changed soon, or ??? I'd rather have something inert than soluble, meself... yes, you have to control where you put it, but it's not that tough to do.
