This week I receive a letter from Saab USA stating that a smallpercentage of certain Saab engines could fail due to oil"sludge"accumulation.My 9.5 HOT engine was one of the models affected.When I called Saab USA, They said that for the warranty to apply, theengine must be i a failed state. That is cannot or will not run. It isdead!!!!!!!!When I read the letter It talks about warning signs like peculiar soundsfrom the engine and/or the oil pressure light on the dashObviously the engine must still be running to have either of theseoccur.They say that there is a"diagnostic" which the dealer can and/or willperform to determine if this warranty applies.If the light is flashing or making weird noises, my car is goingstraight to my repairer , or if I am away, to the nearest dealer.The policy seems very generous. I covers the engine for the "sludge"problem for eight years from original purchase date with unlimitedmileage.Does anyone have any insight to offer?I would hate to have to drive my car until the engine seizes beforeservicing itHas anyone had experience with engine failing due to "sludge"accumulation?Thanks to all,,Malcolm

As I've mentioned once before: Your engine is a completely different Design (GM), which can't be compared to the 9-5 engine (Saab).

Saab cyl-head - that's about it. The new 9-3SS, has Trionic 8 enginemanagement. And a full alu cast block.

Hi all, I do not have it beside me be tomorrow I will post the exact models to which unlimited mileage warranty applies. I would also like some comment on Saab USA's answer that the engine must be stopped dead for the warranty to apply when the letter i received warned of unusual noises and flashing oil lights..

The engines in question are here:

· 9-5 with B205 and B235, modelyear 1998-2003 · 9-3 Coupé/CombiCoupé with B205 and B235, modelyear 2000-2002 · 9-3 Cabriolet modelyear 2000-2003, 9-3 Viggen modelyear 1999
