Horn Problem? 96SL2

A couple of weeks ago I found in Consumers on-line a safety recall for my '96 SL2. The horn could come on spontaneously, and in the worst-case scenario, start a fire.

Not more then a week later my neighbor came to the door and said my car wanted me. What do you think? The horn was blaring. To stop the damn thing the quickest way possible I took a terminal off the battery. Later I went out and found where the horn was, and spotted a connector, only no way to get my hand in. I realized that if I took out the bulb assembly from the parking light it would open the space a bit. I was able to unplug the horn connector that way.

So how many have had this happen?

No probs with the horn, but I did get a letter telling me to come in so they could replace the horn on my 97SL2 - this was very early in my ownership of the car...

Interesting. Yes, the recall goes back to Nov 98. I have no recollection of receiving a letter and it isn't something I'd ignore. I made an appointment with Saturn and the person I spoke to couldn't find anything on it. However, maybe a greenhorn at work... I'll have to thrash it out when I get there.

I had the same type of problem with my '97 SC2. Only I was driving the car at the time. Out of the blue the horn just started blaring. I pulled over to unkook the horn wires but there was no way as you said. Luckily I was close to home. As you did I disconnected the battery. Then I found where the horn fuse was and removed it. Just for grins later in the day I put the fuse back in and the horn didn't start up again. This happened several years ago and has not repeated itself. Dan.
