Noticed the '04s changed to a completely steel rim w/a decorative cover,my 03 is totally aluminum,does this put excessive wear on the tire,& wht was there a rim change?.

Alloy wheels are optional or standard on different trim levels. No excessive wear with steel, just added weight.
My '03 has steel wheels with a cover. It varies with the trim level and options selected.
As I am going black and white with my Ion, I actually like the black steel rims :)

I would not bet on the weight thing. Cool looking alloy wheels often weigh more than plain old stamped steel wheels.
