Maybe indirectly. The SES light comes on when a sensor is sending information to the computer that is outside of the design parameters.

Might have had something to do with it, but it wasn't actually indicating that the engine was hot, it's some other problem that was detected. Quite likely you can retrieve the trouble codes with a jumper wire on this car - see my site below.
