What is a fair price for windshield replacement?

I have a 94 SL2 that needs a windshield. Anyone done this recently?

Don't be surprised if it ends up being more than that. For some reason (I'm told) Saturn glass expensive. I'm glad people are getting prices of 235$, because I've heard closer to 700$. :/ My 4D 98SL2 needed a front passenger side window - 250$.

recently?

prices

I just had a rock hit our windshield and it was replaced via insurance for $235 US via Winn Auto Glass w/no deductible. I could not fathom anyone not having full glass coverage via insurance for piece of mind. We have a 99 SL1

I should have added that the windshield is not broken, but is just worn out from hwy. miles and to much grit blasting. MR

I'm surprised that people are getting windshields in the $250 range. I need one and called a few places in the Boston area and all the prices quoted were in the $500 to $600 range.

I have glass insurance, but I was asking for a cash price. The glass companies here in MA will bill the insurance company, and the reciept that the consumer gets has no price on it. It is well known that they charge the insurance companies more than the cash price they charge a cash paying customer.

500+ dollars is crazy. Upper end luxury cars with a reflective inserts for HUD's cost that much installed. Why a little ol' Saturn would be quoted the same is beyond me. I swear if insurance companies or the government pays for it there are no deals. Unless you count the ones under the table.

What is this no deductible glass insurance stuff you guys keep mentioning? I've never heard of this - I always assumed that glass fell under comprehensive or collision depending on the event. My insurance agent (State Farm) is always really helpful, and doesn't seem the sort to withhold info about this intentionally.

How much does it typically add to your insurance premium?

reciept that

insurance

I have Allstate Insurance and it states right on the policy page "Full Glass No Deductible" I would assume that it costs around $2 extra built into the collision-comprehensive section. I have never seen a price. (Every 6 months or $4 a year)

That is why the glass is so pricey there.

I have State Farm also and I think you have to meet the deductible when paying for glass. I will call and see today. I think MA does have the no-fault which maybe why they pay all the charges. MR

Blah Blah typed until their fingers bled, and came up with:

I recently had my windshield replaced, and the intsaller said that the high cost is due to both the curve of the glass, and the edging that is added to sides at the factory.

Oh it's way beyond that kind of help. MR

In MA state law dictates that glass has no deductable. The government also dictates the insurance rates. I am not sure how it works in other states.

Could the folk who bought windshields in the $250 range post the names and phone numbers of the glass shops where the work was performed. I'd like that information when I call back the places here in Boston who are quoting $600. I'd really like to hear the explanation as to the close to $400 difference.

I had the same experience. High cost due to curve of the glass. It's not the same in later model Saturns. Mine was covered under insurance, but would have been $700. I was shocked.

If you don't have to replace it, don't. You'll get leaks.

Can a glass company polish the glass...beyond what bon ami can do?

It depend on the year of the car. 1992 through (whenever the style changed) had curve glass that is in the $700.00 range. Later model are cheaper. Some made this point above.

Glass prices vary alot. I work for an insurance company and used to work for Saturn. I think the windshield new from Saturn is about $650 . When you call different glass places the price will also vary .

I would try a Company like Safelite . I think the have national chains. I would also try your insurance agent and see which company they use.
