what type of code reader for a '96 SW2?

I'm finding cheap code readers online, and am considering buying one for my '96 dual cam SW2 wagon. But info is hard to come by online so far, so I could use recommendations. Do I need this OBD II standard, or what? Are there models I could use while driving? (I don't even know where the reader socket is yet.)

Yes -- 1996 model year and later use OBD II.

All of them, as long as you don't care about watching where you're going. Please let me know when and where you plan to do this, so I can stay off the road until you're done.

Although I have access to very a expensive scanner at work, I would like to eventually get one to have here at home.

I plan to purchase an Actron CP9150 Kit. Amazon.com has them for about $200. It does OBD1 & 2, and CAN.

Wally World or Harbor Freight sells code readers for between $20 -$40. The one H.F. sells has a digital readout and allows you to clear the codes once they are fixed.
