Hey Nate - Something to keep you awake at night

Since I have the dashboard out of the 55 C, I've been tidying up the wiring. The wiring is a mix of plastic and cloth covered, common for

55's I believe. The plastic is in good shape, and some of the cloth is OK too. But the cloth covered wires for the heater controls and the dome light were getting pretty ratty, like bare copper. The dome light circuit disappears up the A-pillar into the 'ceiling'. After chewing it over, I decided those wires had to be replaced. This involves pulling the headliner back a bit at the left front, but no too much.

Boy, was I ever glad I pulled the old wire out - the main lead from the battery up to the dome light was just full of bare spots where the insulation had decayed. This wire is hot all the time. It does come off a circuit breaker, but if (when) it ever grounded, it would continually trip the breaker with who knows what result.

Sleep tight.
