new toy for wife's birthday; 51 for sale

Just in time for the boss lady's birthday tomorrow, last night I bought a nice little 58 Silver Hawk from a friend here who is in declining health and has not been able to drive it for over a year. I found it in OC and brought it down for him a few years ago. He had it painted the original bronze and installed a set of JP seat covers which I had told him about. It has the flat head 6 w/ auto, which would not have been very interesting to me in my earlier days, but seems very practical for longer trips with the $3/gal gas, which is likely to have another $1/gal federal tax stacked on to it in the forseeable future. (Doncha love those Dems?) PO says he gets 26 mi/gal. on highway.(less than a friend's '53 Commander which gets 32 with a late model Corvette engine & 6 spd.)

He has also asked me to find a buyer for his 51 Champion starlight. It is mostly original in about #3 condition with good interior & presentable blue paint for a decent driver. Has auto trans & 6 cyl. It is a zero rust So. CA car. $9K. For you big spenders, another friend has a 51 rag top with crate motor, and ready to cruise or collect some more trophies. It is about the nicest shade of resale red you could ask for (like Sheba) and only has a few thousand miles since resto completed. $33K and well worth it. I may buy it & take it to the Intl and go for the big bux on it.

I took her out for a nice prime rib dinner this evening, and she let me know that the Hawk is going to need A/c installed, and that she is going to order the Studebaker platter of prime rib at Tippecanoe Place this summer in SB.
