Earthlink assures me that this is a con-job. (I've been reasonably happy with them for seven or so years)

"Dear Earthlink Webmail Subscriber,

To complete your Earthlink Webmail account, you must reply to this email immediately and enter your password here (*********) as we are currently upgrading our services due to unwanted email. Failure to do this will immediately render your email address deactivated from our database.

That sure smells like a scam to me. I don't have Earthlink but I've seen plenty of messages like that and have NEVER seen one that was legitimate.

And think about it, why on Earth would they ask you to do this? THEY know what your password is, and obviously you do or you wouldn't be reading the message.

Typical phishing scam. Answer it and make some Nigerian's day!

(but use someone elses name etc that you don't like...)
