Fantastic story. I don't know which is worse, seeing a ship broken or the life of the poor Indians forced to do the horrible/deadly work accomplishing it. (Even ship breaking in the US was no tea and crumpets party.)

I took my first (and last) cruise on Norwegian Lines a year or two ago. Before going I said that I would rather be in a destroyer engine room than taking that cruise. At the end of the cruise, some others felt the same!

I'll be sending this on to cruising friends of mine

Thanks, Karl

When I got my first "real" job after car sales (1990), the first bonus I earned was a 7 day cruise for my wife and I on the S.S. Norway. Since our honeymoon consisted of a short weekend trip due to lack of vacation time, we have always considered the cruise to be our actual honeymoon.

While on board, I became fascinated with the history of the ship. For it's cruising duties, half of it's engines had been removed, cutting it's top speed in half. I appreciated it's comparatively large transatlantic stabilizers, as we encountered a storm after departing Miami.

As I am, my wife will be devastated to hear the news.

My Wife and I cruised on the S.S. Norway back in "92. It was a magnificent ship. I sure would have like to save it, but just don't have room in my garage.
