Speaking of driving your Studebaker

Went to Vegas this weekend, figured it would still be cool enough for the Avanti. Ran great there and back, though the temp gage crept up on the long uphills. Ambient temp never got over 85, but inside the car was another story. I need a summer Avanti, and R1 with AC. Wish I'd had a camera at one point - dropped it with the valet at the Hard Rock, they backed it up 20 feet and parked it right there, then there were 5 of them examining every inch of it. Bet the guy with the Lambo parked next to it would have been scratching his head had he seen it.

I'll be in Vegas the end of the month myself.Harrah's is flying my wife and I out to Laughlin Nv. again. I also got a offer from Caesars in Vegas for a free room, $200 in cash and Elton John show tickets, sooo. We fly out to Lauglin, stay the night, rent a car and drive the 100 miles to Vegas to get the cash, room and show, then drive back for three more nights in Laughlin playing Blackjack. Last time we were out there we signed up for players cards at all the casino's up and down the river, so we'll hit them for their free food and money coupons.

I could write a book on using comps with Pat's help.

How can a mere mortal get a decent deal for two or three days in Vegas?

I have an airfare voucher but I'm looking for a reasonable hotel/car in May...

I can only speak for Harrah's properties and there are three levels of players: (From the web site with my comments)

Total Rewards Tier Score

As member of Total Rewards you automatically qualify for Gold status. (That gets you a occasion meal, maybe a show)

Earn 4,000 Tier Credits in a calendar year for Platinum status (maybe a free room and the Gold stuff, head of the line privileges )

Earn 10,000 for Diamond to get it all, suites, flights, maybe a grand a year in free electronics, cash, jewelery and the rest. Major ass kissing, special seating, your own club with open bar and food.

Dimmond player get all the perks, 6 or more flight offers a year. This month I get a 25 inch HDTV flat screen.

How you earn Tier Credits

$5 coin-in on reel slot machines = one Tier Credit $10 coin-in on Video Poker = one Tier Credit

For table games and other game types you will earn Tier Credits based on your length of play, average bet and the type of game. As Pat will tell you if the pit boss likes you (tip the dealer, make a fun table) they'll "over rate" your play. i.e. once I was betting $50 a hand, got rated for $200.

So, based on slot play, 10,000 credits means you "risk" 50K/year to get a Diamond card. That's a pretty big nut to make for a occasional player, but more like "risking" 2K a trip for me going every 2 weeks.

BUT, if you are just a slot player, you'll loose at least 10% of that

50K a year and that more then pays for the perks. Maybe 10 players on the last flight played just table games, the rest just paid for our trip. i.e. Blackjack give the house a 1% edge if played correctly, so even 100K/year in play "should" only cost you a grand.

Go Monday - Thursday, room rates go through the roof on weekends.

There is no more cheap Las Vegas, no more $3 steak and lobster dinners, no more 99 cent shrimp cocktails. The last time I went, the only lobster dinner I saw was at a Mandelay Bay "fast food" restaurant, cheapest thing on the menu was $30. The casino will give you a meal and a room if you spend/lose enough... they have to pay for those new billion dollar casinos somehow.
