The Classic had four more inches in the wheelbase and a vent window added to the longer rear doors. Some trim was upgraded too. I heard that some of the Studebaker marketing folks, nicknamed the cheaper version the "Vice President". The name never officially stuck. It was probably the same folks that again proclaimed: "The merger between Studebaker and Packard, was like two drunks, trying to help one another across the street".
