Who now owns the Studebaker name + trademark?

May 17, 2006 5 Replies

Hello! I apologize if this subject has already been discussed. We're working on an indie feature film and need to use the Studebaker name. Funny thing is, it has nothing to do with the cars, it's the name of a cafe in a small town in Lake County (we're trying to avoid renaming the cafe for many reasons). If anyone could help asap that would be a HUGE help to us all, and I'll personal love you for the rest of my life! :) Either respond to this post and/or email me direct: snipped-for-privacy@lennoncreative.com Thank you all.

The Studebaker Drivers Club, Inc. maintains a couple of active Trademarks relative to the Studebaker name. I know that others, including Avanti Motors, ran into a wall with the US Trademark office when they recently applied for a Studebaker Trademark. They tried to get SDC's permission to utilize the name by either signing over the rights or signing permission to use the name. I reccommend that you contact the Trademark Administrator of the Studebaker Drivers Club, Inc.

I would guess that if that is the real name of the cafe there would be no problem in using it. If there is a problem it would be the cafe's problem not yours.

Google is your friend.

You might want to check here, probably the last remaining remnant of Studebaker:

There is a chain of restaurants that use that name, I think they need to be contacted.
