Are there any significant differences between these two model years? I'm thinking of replacing my '01 OBS and the only differences I've seen have been cosmetic.

the '08 is now on a shortened Legacy chassis.
Umm, yeah, it's like totally redesigned.............. Much nicer interior, different chassis, more roomy, etc. the 2008 looks MUCH better in person than in the photos.
