2005 legacy GT

I love my new car. However, I have a few questions:

1) I do not like how the Automatic Climate Control works when it is very cold out. It doesn't blow much heat out a first ( I guess it's waiting for the engine to warm up) but even once the fans are going there is no heat coming out the center vents. I could always override the automatic feature and go manual but that seems to defeat the purpose. Any tricks out there? What temp to you set it for when it's below freezing outside?

2) I'd like to put on winter wipers but the maunal doesn't have the size and the book at CT doesn't have the 2005 specs. Any place I could look this up?

3) I'd like to put on winter tires but apparently they must be 17" aluminium rims. Dealer quote on tires and rims $2700. Ouch! Has anyone found that 16" will work? The prices then drop significantly.

#1 Yes, on cold days it likes to pump warm air to your feet. Dunno why. Check out this thread on how to better use/predict your auto enviro control sys.

#3 Sounds like a typical price. Might have trouble getting 16" to fit right. Go to

and look around there. Check out this link, too.

16's won't clear the brakes

press the mode button to control where the air blows from

the subie motor warms up faster than a lot of other vehicles i've owned, why are you crying?

i set the temp to 69 and basically leave it there the temp control is one of the poorer ones out there

it is a wealth of information, just be sure the search the forum before posting a question or else people get cranky.

Gotta go 17's unfortunately, I tried to get cheaper ones too but you are stuck with low pro 17's, get steel rims and remember... you don't always have to go top of the line winters, a mediocre winter will do way better than the best all season tire.

I never use the auto feature, at startup I would just use whatever you need to get it warm then put it into auto mode once you are comfortable and it should be able to regulate to maintain a set temp.

Don't feel bad the automatic control doesn't work right on any Subaru. I just put it on the setting I like and ignore the automatic settings. Chip
