Another Idiot Outback Problem

OK, I open the door, get into the car, shut the door.

I then put my seat belt on.

Oh, oh, the seat back goes back on me.

It seems that the seat belt strap wrapped around the seat back adjustment lever. You pull on the belt and accidentlally adust the seat back. This has happened to me countless times.

Why is the %*&^&)$%# adjustment lever in line with the seat belt strap?

Yeah, yeah, I should be more observant. Except this is my wife's car and I drive it once in a blue moon.

Jeesh!

2003 and with its share of foibles. Another is/are the cheesy backup light access panels in the cargo area. We even lost one somewhere as they keep falling off. The cargo area mat that comes with the car covers up the tiedown clips; boy that's useful!

Aw, gawd!

I can't believe the amount of time people spend whining about their cars on Usenet. You would swear that they were forced to buy them at gunpoint. They're just cars. I have a 2002 and it has some things that annoy me. Just like any of the cars I've owned before.

You know, the cargo floor tray is rubber and you can move it around to access the tie down clips. Try it. And maybe if the seatbelt didn't have to circumnavigate your big butt it wouldn't get hitched on anything else.

If you don't complain, it won't get fixed.

There are a lot of ovine car drivers out there. I ain't one of them.

I took a knife and cut small openings around each tie-down so they stick up. No big deal unless I need something to complain about.

Now, shouldn't that be built into the liner? Didn't the person who picked out/designed the liner ever look into the back of the Outback and try out his design?

Right!

Put the snowy / wet stuff on a mat with holes in it, and the mess goes right under the mat.

I did not cut large holes but, trimmed the lip so the tie downs were accessible. I have too much life to live to sweat the small meaningless stuff.

Also, since the mat has a lip around it so that spills will not escape, lips could be placed around the cutouts. Is this so difficult?

I'm curious, in 11 years of using Subarus, we've never spilled anything back there. What are people transporting back there anyway?

Items with snow stuck to the bottom that falls off and melts, slightly leaky gasoline and kerosene jugs, soaking wet kayak gear and cycling gear...

dog's water bowl where the lid might come off; nursery plant pots which have drainage holes in them thus allowing water and/or dirt to escape

I guess I live a sheltered life! I gotta get out some more.

It is my wife's car and she is a library bookie. Most of what she hauls there is tons of books. Most of them are dry ;-)

I use my 16 yr old Jeep for the dirty stuff like trash and garbage for the recycling center. Yes, I live in a town where there is no garbage nor trash pickup. We take our stuff there weekly. It's a great place to meet people...and pick up good recycling stuff.

Leaky gasoline...jugs? Don't you think that's dangerous?

Sure!

It's not like they're spewing all over the place. Sometimes, the jugs will get a slight leak at the cap. I'm only going a few miles from the station to home with my lawnmower, snowblower, or kerosene heater jugs.

I still don't want it on the carpet.

I just had this happen to me in my '01 OBS. It wouldn't happen if the belt reeled in properly.
