Coolant For 2015 Outback ?

Hello:

Have a 2015 Outback.

a. How "necessary" is it to use the Subaru labeled, from the Dealership, Coolant ?

Anything magical about it, or the typical 50-50 Prestone pre-mixed will work just as well ?

b. anything in the Posts or elsewhere regarding excessive coolant loss ?

Level in the overflow jug seems to be going down quite fast.

What might be some of the causes for this ?

Thanks, Bob

The blue Subaru coolant is good for 150,000 miles, as long as you top it off with more Subaru coolant. If you mix in Prestone or other green coolant, the extended life properties are lost. Don't do it. Blue coolant is about $25 a gallon vs. $12 for Prestone.

You shouldn't be losing coolant on a new car like this. (It may lose a couple of ounces a year from evaporation.) Bring it to the dealer and they will pressure test the cooling system to find the leak. It's under warranty.

It might be just re-uptaking that fluid after its cooled down.

I use an OEM coolant and it works just as fine.
