The Geolanders are about shot (outside edge wear from soft sidewalls rolling under cornering) Anyone got a good recomendation in the stock size? I was hoping to stretch these until I was ready to upsize, but I guess 16k miles with the way I drive is not too bad.

which has a very extensive set of tire ratings and a great reputation for reasonable pricing and fast shipment. Beyond that, it just depends on who happens to be reading this newsgroup at any particular time. I'll be replacing my Geolandars soon and intend to go with the Continentals recomended by Tirerack.

I have a Forester with 27,000 kms on the clock. Yokohama Geolanders are factory fitted to Foresters here in Australia. I run the pressures 34 psi front, 32 rear. Wear seems reasonable so far. The dealer recommends this for sidewall protection and wear. My brother has an identical Forester with 33,000 kms and the Geo's are shot. But he hadn't been running them at correct pressure. Also on long on trips he carried a bit of weight and a roof rack.
Every tyre (or tire to Americans) dealer I speak to says you have to run them at 36 psi all round, laden & unladed. Many of them say you can make tyres last 40-50,000kms.
Michelin Synchone* is another alternative I've heard of. I don't think they have been in Australia long enough for anyone to form opinions about wear.

I have a 1999 Outback, and I fitted the OEM Geolander G040s at 75,000km. I currently have 82,000km on the clock.
My tyre dealer also told me to run 36psi all round, even though the recommended pressures are 29psi front / 28psi rear. I was running 36psi up until now, but the ride is just a little too hard for my bum. I have reduced them to 32psi all round. No abnormal wear at all from the tyres so far.
