I have about 450 miles on it and I think I will be doing SUBARU recommended maintenance on it. I wish gas wasn't so expensive though, I would put more mileage on it. If anyone remembers me complaining about the crap headlights on my old 2005 Impreza RS, the headlights on this 08 are a vast improvement and I don't have any problems driving at night with my low beams on.
My impressions so far: Man, they vanilla'd this car out for the masses. The 2005 was a tight, fun car to drive (RS wagon 5MT). The 08 (hatchback 5MT) is softer with different gearing and I'm not sure if I like the change. Sure, it's a nifty new car and I'm always getting compliments on it but there's a bit of fun missing. The clutch doesn't feel as grabby 'n' go as the 05 so I'm having a tougher time adjusting (it doesn't help that I'm not driving it as much as I should). Whereas highway on-ramps used to be really yeehaw fun on the 05, this time, first through third don't feel as torque-y but through 4th and into
5th, you positively hurtle onto the highway rather seductively, I think. Perhaps, the car *is* as quick as the 05 but because they've softened the car a bit, I'm not feeling it. With the 08, I find that I'm looking at the speedometer and saying: Oh s*it! because I'm going faster than I think.
I like the fact that they've widened the car (or perhaps squished the two front seats closer) :) It feels very roomy though I'm still trying to find a really comfortable driving position. Too low and I have a hard time seeing past the hatchback rearend, too high and I feel out of place with the steering wheel. I really just need to drive the car more. I drove the 08 sedan and thought the handling wasn't as tight as the hatchback. The hatchback just looks much, uh, cooler ;)
