Questions about 03 Forester 5M

It's the first time I own an AWD Subaru (used to have FWD). I have a question and am wondering if somebody can answer me.

As far as I know that the torque will switch to different wheels when there's a slip. However, since I have a manual transmission, everytime I depress the clutch when I feel the slip. How can the torque be transmitted from the engine to the wheels if the clutch is depressed.

I know probably it's a stupid question but I'd like to know if I should or shouldn't depress the clutch when there's a slip.

Also, I would like to have some opinions about the best 4 season tires and would like to have more grip on snow.

Thanks all.
