Quite unhappy with Legacy marketing in Canada

Jun 14, 2004 11 Replies

Hi all,

Test drove the 2005 Legacy last week, great car. I want one but have no need for most options, except a sunroof. But look at the options packages : anything above the base model is at least 7000$cdn extra. Want a sunroof and a manual transmission ? Nothing short of a 2.5GT Ldt will do...

I'd be sorry to have to look elsewhere just for that...

Well, it appears you have two options. Either go on without it, or find a different car that gives you a sunroof at a lower price. I'm not sure about that though, because most vehicles nowadays come in ridiculous options packages anyway, so you'll have to go for the "premium" model just to get that sunroof. There was a vehicle once that I was interested in, but I wanted the larger engine (since the base engine was lame) but in order to get the larger engine, I had to get fancy wheels and a ton of other crap that I didn't want.

Yep, all of a sudden the Passat 4motion is becoming attractive.

The above is one long URL.

That was a Subaru decision, not a Subaru of Canada one. Sunroofs only come on the upper models in the '05s. I wanted a sunroof, too, especially after I have heard all the raves about them. Settled for a base model, but really love it.

We recently got a '04 legacy end of season 35th anniversary model at a god price but with more bells an whistles than we wanted to relace our totalled '00 Brighton, that had no bells or whistlesl We now have not one, but 2 sun rooves and really don't know what to do with them. I tried opening one and all it seemd to do was add to the noise int he car interior.

What do you use them for???

Wendy -by the way, we just love the power seat. It's great for my short husband, who is seeing bettter than he ever has.

Well, you don't "use" them, you just "enjoy" then -- that is, it you happen to find them enjoyable. I do. Personnal taste.

I've had cars with (90Legacy) and without (04ForesterXS). I used it on hot days, never opened up just propped 2". It improved the air flow in the car for the front passengers and allowed hearing sirens etc. behind you better. If you smoke it would draw the air out well. And when I'm parked I leave it open to limit the heat buildup. But now that I don't have it, well I'm fine with it.

Now that I've had a car with a sunroof, every car that lacks one just seems dark and dreary inside.

Had a Legacy LS 1990, and a Legacy L 95. The 95 has no moonroof, but I found that I don't miss a lot. It's fun, but not worth the cost and the trouble. It also takes off over an inch of headroom. On the 90, the glass is delaminating, and the surrounding metal sheets are starting to rust. During summer I put the shade on to avoid getting cooked. Just not worth paying for it.
