Tires will wear out quicker and if engine is not set up for premium gas, it is a waste of money.

The tires may last longer. You have to watch the wear patern. I have the tires on my car 15 pounds over the suggested. My wear is perfect, milage is better, drivability better.......

and if engine is not set up for premium gas,

compression ratio is the biggest factor to what grade of fuel.

Yes but how's the handling?

with higher tire pressure, you tend to get tighter/bouncier ride and you get bit better gas mileage because the tire surface doesn't flex to fit the road as much, but lose bit in the gripping. the center of the tire will wear out little more, but i found the factory setting usually wear out the edge more, so it may actually even out. i inflate my tires around 3psi more than the factory setting, normally - i, too, like the tighter ride.
