Subaru L series Driving LIghts

Hi,

I am trying to connect driving lights on my 1994 L-series Wagon (4WD

Sportswagon). Everything is fine, except I can't find where to connect to the high-beam wire (so that the driving lights only come on when the high-beam is on). I don't have a wiring diagram, so I would love it if someone could tell me what colour wire I am looking for and approximately where to find it.

I found what I thought was the correct wire. It was red/white and came out from

the steering column, but it was at 12V when the high-beams were off and 0V when they were on. The relay is expecting the opposite (0V for off and 12V for on). If this is the correct wire then could someone please tell me how to connect this properly to the relay.

Connect fused supply to one of the contact conectors of the relay and also to one of the relay coil connectors (so only one wire running form +12v of the battery (decent guage fused). The hi-beam wire you found goes to the other relay coil connector. The remaining contact connector goes to the wire from the centre of the driving light lamps, and the other wire from the lights (if there is one and not earthed through the casing of the light assy) goes to a good solid ground (any convenient earthing point near the front of the car, alternatively to the neg terminal of the battery).

Oh, and of course your dash mounted switch for the lights is mounted between the hi-beam wire you found and the relay.

If you have DRLs, your driving light application may not work as expected. On my 98 Outback, the driving lights would sometimes come on with the DRLs. I had to install a switch to defeat the driving lights when not in use to avoid this problem. DS
