wondering about getting a Thule Roof rack for the Forester.2001.w/sunroof. has anyone experience with this set up? does te sunroof still work unimpeded? Thule website said that the shorter boxes do not interfere with back door.I guess that means that the longers ones do not allow one to open the hatch without taking off he carrier. Any experiences on this? would lke to mount on Factory rack with Thule's quick release system. All this is new to me..i am just quoting what i have researched,. i need a human with some experience to help. many thanks alice

I have a Thule Evolution 16 Cubic Foot box on my 1998 Forester, and I love it. You will probably have to move the crossbars on the factory rack to line up with the mounting system and clear the tailgate, but it's no big deal. The Evolution has the quick release mounting system, and with the assistance of the Eastern Mountain Sports salesman, we had it attatched in about ten minutes. It opens from either side, and is slim enough that I can still clear the top of my garage door and park it inside.
I have no sunrooof, so I can't comment on that, but the utility you will gain will offset anything you lose in that regard.
Just for the record, I have no interest, financial or otherwise, in Thule or Eastern Mountain Sports. Just a fly fisherman who has a place to stow all his gear while travelling, and still drive a vehicle that fits in tight places and gets good mileage.

Good question -- I'm thinking of doing the same. Thule or other?
