UK Forester Information

I know that a 'new' Forester was released in the UK in the past year. Regarding the previous model, was there an update (facelift?), around the year 2000? I notice some of the price guides split the models years around there. Pre-2000 called GLS and post-2000 called AWD. Can anyone confirm this and explain the differences? Or point me to a site where the differences are explained?

There was a facelift for 2000: different headlamps/grille, the tail lamps expanded onto the tailgate, antidive added to front suspension are the main differences. Current subaru uk website
