When did Subaru introduce airbags?

Hi,

Does anyone know when Subaru introduced airbags? Which model/year? Regards,

Han.

My '95 Outback has dual front airbags. I know that the driver's side one was standard but I believe the passenger side one was optional on the bare bones Legacy base model. Before that, I believe the Legacy had only the driver's side airbag as standard, and that style was the first Legacy from around 89-90. Can't comment much on the Impreza, Loyale, XT, and SVX, which were available around the time airbags began showing up and/or being required in some countries, but I'm reasonably sure that the SVX and Impreza had at least a driver's side airbag.

If you're looking for a non-airbag Subaru, you'll need to go back to the days of the 4x4 Subies, like the BRAT, GL, and DL.

Neither our 90 Legacy, bought in July of 89, nor our 92 L wagon has airbags.
