1989 Subaru GL will start but won't run

After replacing the engine in our 89 subaru GL it will start but when you release the ignition it won't run. It's not getting fuel to the carb. It's throttle body fuel injected-no turbo. The fuel pump seems to be working when starting the engine and it runs fine if you pour gas into the carb manually. It stops pumping gas when you let off on the ignition. Any ideas how to proceed from here?

do you have oil pressure? sometimes the fuel pump feel runs through an oil pressure signal. Other times it looks for pulses from the ignition (that's how VW does it.)

good luck

are you sure the plumbing from the throttle body to the air cleaner and stuff is airtight? sounds like the mass air sensor isn't giving a signal to make the injectors squirt during run. the starting enrichening system is obviously working, else the engine wouldn't start. good luck, sammm
