95 ESCORT AUTO TRANS NOT PUMPING TO COOLER LINES...

Instead of dropping the pan, I disconnect the cooling hose to the radiator and pump out 3-4 quarts of dirty fluid. This has worked fine on all my cars. Now, with a car I just bought, no fluid is pumping out to the radiator. I did drop the pan and change the filter. The fluid was a very dark brown. Shifts in all gears, but car doesn't move under 1,500 RPM.

Has anyone had any experience working on/fixing transmissions who might offer suggestions? Thanks!

How many miles are on the car? I'm guessing that you need a new transmission. Use your opportunity while it is still drivable to get it to a shop. Although your problem does not appear to be Escort specific, try searching the fourms over at

to see if anyone there knows any better. The olt Escort specific problem that I can think of is a TSB for a transmission drainback valve that needs to be installed becasue if you do let the car sit for a few days it will slip for a couple of minutes nex time you start it. Consider a junkyard transmission. These cars drop valve seats like mad and a lot of people junk the car at that point. There should be plenty of good transmissions to be gotten in theory.

For what its worth, my 1995 Escort LX has about 164,5000 miles in it with still the original automatic transmission in it.
