Cavalier head gasket issue ever addressed?

I posted this in the wrong group yesterday so sorry if anyone sees a cross-post.

I was just wondering if GM ever resolved the problem with the 2.2 cavaliers blowing head gaskets? I have a 95 that has gone through a gasket already and I may be looking for another cavalier in the future.

I'm just concerned about *what year* to look for (if the issue ever was addressed).

I posted a similar message on the j-body.org forums and someone mentioned that in 2002 GM started putting a different engine in the cavaliers (I think they mentioned something like "ecotek"). Could someone confirm and/or add any info on this? Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, so do you know what year they started using the new procedure, and what year they started using the ecotek engine?

The Ecotec engine began service in 2001 I believe in the higher model Cavaliers (option on LS models, standard on Z24) but the base models still made use of the 2.2L pushrod motor. In 2003, all Cavaliers came with the Ecotec motor, accompanying the facelift they also received.

I am not familiar with the head gasket problem, but if it was an issue on the 2.2 it probably was ok on the 2.3/2.4 motors which were options since 95. They were completely different motors, the 2.2 being OHV and the 2.3/2.4 as DOHC. The 2.3/2.4 came standard on Z24 models and were options on the LS.
