Credibility of Tire Rack Customer Reviews

I have been reading the customer surveys on tires at tirerack.com. I wonder how seriously to take these ratings. On the one hand, these customers care enough about tires to register an opinion. On the other hand, their opinions aren't expert, or even necessarily well-informed. And certainly, anyone who replaces old cheap tires with nice new ones is likely to think the new ones are great.

Some of the reviews are thoughtful, and are written after the driver has many miles on the tires; others seem less considered and are written after very few miles of mileage experience.

Any thoughts?

I read them... I usually find that some tires have generally high reviews with a few dissenters, and others may have nearly all dissatisfied users. I feel better in the first case, obviously.

Read them just with what you noticed. You can also read the tests tire rack does and talk to the sales people on the phone. I ordered snow tires recently and at first the sales guy was mentioning a new tire that didn't have much review information... but it was more money than the ones I had sort of decided on. Then we talked about my second choice and basically from what he had to say I went with my second choice which was much LESS expensive than my first.
