One problem with the warranties is that they often only will replace what absolutely needs to be replaced. For example, if you knock out a rod bearing, it will pay to replace the rob bearing, but that's it. So, if you want to be smart and replace all four bearings, you get to pay to replace three of them. If the valves are shut, you need new valve springs, or the oil rings are nearly shot, you're out of luck.

And if you sell the car or truck before you use the warranty, the car is wrecked or something else bad happens, you're out of luck, too.

A few years ago, someone who worked at a GM dealership said if something like that happened and they had to remove the piston, they'd reuse all the old piston rings. :(
