You`re right. Vegetarian buddies aren`t of help. I drive older cars because of lower insurance cost.

I`m thinking of hooking a starter to make the car move, at least out of the way. Over here, traffic jams cost the economy a million dollar/hour. I`d like to contribute by being unnoticeable.

My car stalled because I made shoddy electrical repair. It`s almost reaching 300K mi, but not sure what component will go next. If it does, I`d ought to be prepared. I`m not US born so not sure pushing a car is the right thing to do. Lately, I saw a woman and her car in the center of a busy intersection waiting for a tow. If cars break down in busy roadway what should I do?

Some of the above depending on your strength, traffic, weather, neighborhood, and nature of problem. Turn on the flashers first to warn others as the first step. Coast to the side or shoulder if possible. Push it if you are up to it. Don't waste time flagging others to help. Those who are willing will stop anyway. If it's a tire, change it your self if possible. Otherwise, do a quick assessment of what is wrong. (The last previous repair is most suspect.) Whether you call or go for help depends upon whether you think you can get it going yourself. You seem like an independent kind of guy and I appreciate your self sufficiency. You don't want a tow bill if possible and yet you don't want to impede traffic. If you have a standard transmission and a strong battery, you could use that to motor off the road in an emergency. Of course, you might run the battery down too far to restart. You could carry a spare if this is that important. My experience with old cars, which is all I drive, it that they rarely die completely in traffic if you do any maintenance at all. You can usually limp a little ways.
