No Power to Window On 1990 Celebrity

Recently, my power window on front pass side door started acting up. I noticed that it would not go up or down from the master switch at the drivers door. I then proceded to lower the window at the door itself (pass side front door) and it did indeed lower. It won't raise , however. Any thoughts on this? Is it the motor that's suspect or the switch? I find it hard to believe that both the master switch and the door switch would die at the same time. Any help would be appreciated as its pretty cold outside! Thanks, Jay

you'll have to pull the panel off the pass. door and unplug the power window motor and with a 12 volt simple test light probe into the plug to see if when you lower the window you have 'juice' on either side of the plug. One side will probably be 'hot' when you command down and then when you command up with the switch, the other side(terminal in the plug) will be energized(hot-juice-light the light). This is from my experience the most likely thing to happen meaning a new, re-manned or junkyard motor. It is possible to have a bad ground. Also as you mentioned, the switch could be bad which would result in no lighting of your test lamp in any way. Then you'd have to go back to the switch, probe that and make sure that every command you make is not 'coming' out of the switch. If you do have 'juice' switching out of the switch(with your 12volt test light)you've lost it somewhere between the switch and the motor. In which case you either re-wire or try to find the problem. If this is the case, I have seen many similar vehicles where the problem is where the wires go thru the post/ the rubber grommet, then thru/into the door. Over time, opening and closing the door causes the wire to break-look close here if the situation dictates this. Hope this helps-good luck jerry@peru- motors.com
