odometer malfunctioning

Feb 05, 2007 5 Replies

Hi I posted this in August 2006 but no one answered

It ststill seems to work just intermittently

My odometer works when I am traveling over 60mph and not below. I replaced speed sensor on transmission and it didn't help. It is a big problem because fuel gauge is also not working and I have to guess how many miles I have driven and have run out of gas once! Trip odometer even travels in reverse at times when below 60 mph the odomreter feels like working. Any help would be appreciated. thanks john

What kinda car? What year? What model? What mileage? What country?

Any aftermarket add-ons? Alarm, remote start, radio?

Is the Check Engine light on?

Well, since you don't even mention the kind of car you are driving, how can anyone help you? Nobody knows if it is a mechanical or electrical system, or how it's tied in with the speedometer.

You need to add some additional info - Make/Model/Year/Engine Size please!

I am so sorry1

1992 buick roadmaster wagon 5.7

249,564 miles

The true reading is much higher since it usually only functions over

55-60 mph and it ha sbeen occurring for over a year

I don't know what's causing your problem. But maybe you could rig up a bicycle speedometer as a low budget work around. I've seen people use them successfully on motorcycles. Good Luck
