Out of curiosity, I've heard and read to go 1K before going the syn. oil

I am rather certain that the last car I bought came with synthetic oil, and it was changed only at the first service interval..not 500 or 100 miles.

No matter whether the rings are cast iron, chrome, moly faced, stainless steel?
