who needs an oil light!?!i have no idea what kinda vehicle ya got and if by switch you mean sensor or sending unit(pressure switch).then try grounding wire to frame/block.

Black electrical tape works best. If you can find the wide tape that does a nicer job. The light will never bother you again.

You might do better by saying what kind of vehicle it is or I just have never heard of a 'toledo'.

Some oil switches turn the light on with an open circuit, some with a closed circuit. I would ground the wire at the plug to see if this turns off the light. If so, the switch is just dead. If not, it still could be a chafed wire grounding where it goes through the firewall or somewhere, if you have a firewall...

Hi Mike. Thats something I never thought off all my other cars have been open circuit to turn the light off, as soon as it stops raining I`ll go and try earthing it. by the way it`s a SEAT TOLEDO in other words its a Spanish Body with a German Diesel Golf Engine and running gear... To Al Bundy. Very good, thats what I normally do but the dash has a sloping glass and all the warning lights are together very difficult to cover just one. Cheer`s Ken

Hi Oldkid. I dont need an oil light !!!!! thats why I`m trying to put it out, its a dam good SEAT TOLEDO with a German Diesel golf engine, dead reliable, shame about the Spanish body though.... Cheer`s Ken.....

if the engine is all german then grounding it will solve the "problem".however,i would replace the "switch" as these engines "need" lots of oil pressure and i'm the lazy type that dont check my oil till it goes dry.thus i prefer the safety backup of a functioning switch.but in spain,if that's what it takes to live "dangerously",then i'm impressed with the culture!!it's so romantic!did i mention i've owned lots of german diesels and a couple just like yours!my last one was an

87 golf i beleive.so are ya burning veggy oil or some alternative fuel in that thing?

If it uses the same setup as VW there are actually two senders, one on the oil filter mount, one on the head, one is NC and one is NO (don't remember which is which) also there is a circuit board behind the dash that uses the info from those two senders and the tach signal to decide whether or not to turn on the light.

hope that helped more than it confused...

hmm....maybe pull the instument cluster and disable that particular bulb..then install an oil pressure guage.....I PERSONALLY PREFER GUAGES OVER LIGHTS...

Hi Oldkid I run Sunflower oil at 50x50 most of the time and it works well, I live in the South of England and the weather is so changable I think I will have to go back to mainly Diesel for the winter. I have shorted the wire out to ground but it still stays on,,,so I think it a wiring problem. Cheer`s Ken

Hi There. Many thanks for that and yes it does have the switch on the oil filter and there is one on the end of the head, to be honest I am a mechanic by trade but I am dam lazy to go out and bye a manual for this car......

Hi there you plainoldmechanic. That idea had crossed my mind and like you I prefer to see what pressure I have instead of relying on lights. I do have a spare cluster of gauges that I could rob an oil pressure gauge from. I know the Engine is good thats why I dont mind doing away with the light... and like you I know the sound of the engine. Cheer`s Ken.....
