Sebring 2.7 engines

I have a1999 Sebring convertible that has the 2.5 Mitsubishi engine in it. I have not had any problems with this engine and have not seen any bad reports on it. I am thinking of upgrading to a newer Sebring convertible, but the 2001 to present Sebring convertible engines have the 2.7 Dodge Intrepid engines and I have been hearing repors of sludging in these engines at low mileage.....50K-80K. Any opinions on these engines and whether Chrysler has improved them in recent years to solve the sludging problems? Would using synthetic oil minimize the sludge risk?

I have had one run-in with that engine series, and it wasnt a good experience. The owner's children had been driving the car and let it run out of oil and water. It locked up SOLID.

We found a low mileage junkyard engine and replaced the old unit. She was told (1) keep the oil CHANGED frequently, (2) be sure to keep coolant in the engine, (3) keep those kids out of the car, and (4) sell or trade the darn thing as soon as possible.

She did none of the four.

Engine failed again not long ago.
