Taurus Fuel Pump Issue?

Today my wife was driving our 01 Taurus and while she was stopped at a stoplight the car started shaking badly and when she left the light it had no power of kind of jerked and lunged about until she parked it. When I got there, it fired right up and I have driven it with no problems.

Her description sounded like it was out of gas, but she had just filled the car up minutes before. Any ideas based on this little information? Maybe a fuel pump issue? Again, I didn't keep doing it so I'm not quite sure what to do.

Thanks for any help.

Maybe some water in the gas?

Check your owner's manual for the fuel filter change recommendation. Also throw a can of fuel system dryer and a can of fuel injector cleaner in and make sure the fuel octane is right.

Could also be something COMPLETELY different - like an intermittent electrical problem and the ECU freaked out.

try the IAC valve, also known as the air bypass valve (assuming there is one?), mounted on the intake manifold probably with two bolts and a sensor. spray some throttle body cleaner in it and reattach, but if it's gunked up enough you might need to replace it.

hope this helps, john
