unscrewing

Sep 23, 2007 2 Replies

I bought a used car, and I can't seem to unscrew one of the screws in the back license plate holder. The screw turns around, but it never comes closer to coming out. Any ideas?

The nut on the backside is turning with the screw. If there is a way to get on the backside and hold the nut, then the screw will come out. If you can't get to the backside, you could take something with a thin blade (such as a screwdriver or gasket scraper) and wedge it in- between the screw's head and the license plate. As you are turning the screw, twist the blade, thus applying [outward] pressure (to hold the nut in place). The screw should make its way out.
