Nov 16, 2005 4 Replies

i have a 1987 toyota Supra Non turbo and when i try to start the car it clicks

now some times it clicks once or twice then starts

other times its just keeps clicking its worse on hot days

i am thinking its the starter but it very well could be the stock alarm

neone ever had this problem or have any ideas on what it could be

any advice would help thx

It's toast. Sell it to me for $100...

No, actually, this is a classic example of a starter going.

Things to chack first:

full charge on the battery all cables/connections tight cables in good condition everything connected (no loose wiring)

thx i got new cables but the one they sold me was too short

so i will check the cables and wires

thx for the advice

i was fairly sure it was the starter but my friend that owned the car before me had just replaced it before i bought it from him so i wanted to make sure thats the problem before spending the money on a new starter when its something else

Bad contacts in the starter relay...

It likely IS something else (unless the high current relay IS IN the starter...it's almost for sure the starter relay...
