1983 305 starting problem

Jul 23, 2007 4 Replies

I made this post already and one person answered by saying a shim was missing from the starter! Did you mean to say it only showed up when its HOT?

--------------------

Reply: The problem shows up only when its cold. Problem is known as "Hot starter binding"

The problem is"when it's cold it starts but after a long drive the engine drags like the battery weak or the starter is bad? It always starts but some times I have to wait a few minutes"?

Jasper engine-new battery-new alt-2 starters &heat shield!

Thanks

This post makes no sense.

Neither did the original post he made a few days ago. Probably why it went unanswered.

Shim the starter. When it's hot and because hot metal parts expand, the starter pinion drives too hard into the flywheel and drags. Had an 80's

305 that did the same thing.
