1994 Corolla cuts out on me

Sounds like the cam belt is off a tooth, and the engine computer is trying to compensate with different spark timing. This can also cause the engine to run hot or damage the catalytic converter.

Take it back to the mechanic and have him verify the valve and spark timing.

I have spoken with the garage, and they said everything is pinned down and CAM belt is ok. Do you have any other suggestions ? I have been told by several people it sounds like its being starved of petrol, but don't know what else to check.

You mentioned that you spoke with the garage, but did yhou take the car back and did they actually remove the timing belt cover so verify cam timing and put a timing light on to verify ignition timing?

Your original post implied that the lack of power showed up as soon as the timing belt was changed. If the cam timing were off by a tooth, the problem would show up immediately, not after several months. If the shop did not set the tensiner correcly, then it is possible but highly unlikely.

Lack of performance can be due to many different factors:

A clogged air filter A crack in the black plastic intake between the air filter and the throttle body A vacuum leak Incorrect ignition timing or insufficient spark advance Incorrect spark plugs Bad high tension wires Poorly functioning O2 sensor Clogged fuel filter Clogged fuel injectors Clog or restriction in the exhaust Slipping transmission

Take the car to a competent technician for diagnosis.
