The low oil pressure light can come on if oil pressure is low at idle, if the switch is bad, or if there is a short to ground in the switch circuit. The best way to diagnose the problem is to check the switch for continuity between the wire terminal and ground when the engine is not running. If there is continuity, the switch is bad. If there is continuity only when the engine is running, install an oil pressure gauge at the switch port and check engine oil pressure.
The switch is usually located on the engine block. Looking into the engine bay while standing in front of the car, the oil pressure switch is usually located to the right of the exhaust manifold, but it can be located anywhere on the block. Fortunately, the block is not that big so it should be easy to spot.
