I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla LE with 35k miles and the engine light just came on. To me this seems early for scheduled maintenance but maybe I am wrong? Should I try resetting the light first to see if it was a fluke? If there was really a problem the light will reappear, correct? Anyone know how I reset the engine light?

Get your own OBDII reader. I've been very happy with the one I got here, less than $100:
Could be something like an O2 sensor. If the light does not go out, take it in for repairs.
Not everything in a car wears out based strictly on the number of miles you drive it.
or gas cap not seated tightly!
You can usually reset the light by disconnecting the battery cables for a minute or so. Is it the "maint reqd" light or "check engine"?
