The best place to get a new engine is at your local Toyota dealer. If you are looking for a rebuilt or junkyard engine, you'll have to shop around.

The best place is your local Toyota dealer, as Ray says. You can get either a brand new or properly rebuilt engine, and all the accessories like the power steering pump will be properly checked over to see if they can be reused, properly installed by experienced techs, and it will be backed by a nice warranty... But BOY, you're going to pay a pretty penny for it.

Junkyard used engines are a crapshoot - Unless you find an installer that will stand behind the engine as being "low mileage and in good shape" and give you a warranty, there is a chance that you get the used engine installed and find a problem in the new one, and you just rolled snake-eyes with your money.

The "Japanese Used Engines" have another wrinkle - it may well be labeled as a "3SFE" engine, or they'll say 'It's another variant of the 3S engine - it'll fit.' Maybe, but sometimes not without a lot of extra work - there are big variations from country to country on the same model car or engine - don't count on it being a "drop in". Mounted inline or transverse, EFI or carbureted, stick or auto...

The best way is to have your old engine removed and rebuilt, or check on buying a non-Toyota 'factory remanufactured' engine - chances are higher you'll get at least a short 12-12 warranty from the shop, because they know it's all fresh.
