"oil change" warning lit up on dash yesterday and stayed on. Does anyone know if this is triggered by a sensor or just runs on a timer? I've seen the reset button which, I presume, will switch it off. Had an oil and filter change about 4000km (2500miles) ago with quality oil, but not sure if anything was done about the oil reservoir under the bonnet/hood.

No sensor, could be time but more likely milage. Remove the rubber bung over the speedo lens, and press the button. This will reset the light. The oil reservoir may need to be topped up, I don't think a change is required, oil is pumped from there to the engine when engine oil level is low.

Thanks Greg Have reset the light and all is fine. Turns out the mechanic did drain out reservoir and re-filled it as well. Interesting idea this top-up reservoir, although I'm undecided as to whether it exists because Toyota expected it to burn oil! Toyota being Toyota, it's more likely that they predicted the typical driver of a 1995 Estima (badged Tarago in Australia) would never check it!

Its something to do with counter, every 4000KM it turns on..You can reset it but the light will come one again after 4000KM
The level sensor died on my Estima (badged Previa in NZ), so I had a severly overfilled engine, luckily for me I heard the pump running and found the problem before it created a worse one. Now I keep the level in the reservoir low.
