Economy cars are usually cheaper than all other classes, so they would save money on the cost of the vehicle in addition to saving at the pump. Note I said *economy* cars there, not *hybrid* cars.

Makes sense--but aren't the Korean cars a better deal for the money?
The implication of the headline (in this case) is what you tell yourself it means, rather than what it actually says. To go from "European Drivers Think Hybrids Are a Good Idea" to "Europeans are ready to bust out their wallet and buy hybrids" is a leap that that you made. The headline doesn't imply that at all.
No, they'll think Ferraris are fun to drive. Ferraris aren't based on any unique idea like hybrids are.
I see--thanks for the info!
Let me check this year's car issue of CR... ;-)

LOL!
Currently CR has numerous domestic and Korean cars that are outscoring Toyota and Honda with its readers and staff ;)

CR gives the Hyundai Sonata very high marks and a better recommendation than the Civic or Corolla. The Sonata gets the special check with a circle (best buy), the Civic and Corolla only get the check (recommended). Of course the Sonata is closer to the size of a Camry and has better equipment than the base model Civics or Corolla, so even though it costs about the same, you could argue it is a much better buy (and it has a better warranty as well). I suppose the Hyundai that is equivalent to the Corolla is the Accent. CR has good things to say about it....
"Hyundai's redesigned entry-level model is available as a sedan or hatchback and is powered by a relatively refined 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine. While it is one of the least expensive cars on the road, desirable options push the price up to almost $15,000. The ride is relatively comfortable and quiet. Handling is secure but not agile. Although standard curtain air bags are a positive in this price range, the Accent scored a poor in the IIHS side-impact test. For 2007 ABS is no longer standard, and it is hard to find models equipped with it on dealership lots."
....but they don't give it the check mark. I suppose this is because of the ABS and IIHS tests. The reliability of the older models was mediocre, however the 2005 Model is shown having reliability on par with the Civic and Corolla (although I wonder about the sample size).
